Its been a long time since anyone has posted and i dont think many ppl actually read this anymore but im really quite happy now so i just shall post.

My electives are settled! FINALLY!....well sort of... everything is planned out, ive pulled out from an elective that was causing me quite a lot of headache and now everything is sort of done! that means, New York here i come! haha! Well, its been like that for abt 3 months already but now that everything else is settled, it feels much better! Heh... now all i need to do is pass one exam at the beginning of next yr....apparently quite a few ppl fail that....i hope i dont become a statistic....

On another note, funorama is coming up! so do buy ur tickets! i still need to go to acjc to get mine from ms tang/mrs ung so if anyone is going, please do tell me! maybe u can help me collect them...heh...

Its been really long since anyone last posted...i guess life has just been really boring... which tends to be the case when u're studying......and in singapore.....

Anyway, recently theres been something which really irked me... the "news" articles posted on the yahoo singapore page...theres news, REAL news, about typhoons and earthquakes devastating neighbouring countries, things which actually have an impact on ppls' lives (which is really quite sad), and what kind of life-changing news do we generate in singapore?

Subject: New Army Plan

REFERENCES: NEW FY09 ARMY POLICIES

1. Please disseminate to Soldiers at all levels. As result of
Senate proposed force reductions and budget cuts, the Department of the
Army has developed a program to reduce its number of personnel. This
program is under test phase and will take affect 1 October 2009 (FY10).
Under this new program, older Soldiers will be asked to go on early
retirement, thus permitting the retention of the younger Soldiers who
will represent the future. Therefore, program will phase out older
Soldiers by the end of the current fiscal year. This initial phase of
the program will be known as S.L.A.P. (Soldier Late-Aged Program).

2. Soldiers who are S.L.A.P.’d will be given the opportunity to
look for jobs outside the Army. S.L.A.P.’d Soldiers can request a
review of their personnel records before actual retirement takes place.
This phase of the program is called S.C.R.E.W. (Survey of Capabilities
of Retired Early Workers). All Soldiers who have been S.L.A.P.’d or
S.C.R.E.W.’d may file an appeal with their chain of command with final
authority at the MACOM level. This is called S.H.A.F.T. (Study by Higher
Authority Following Termination).

3. Under the terms of the new policy, a Soldier may be
S.L.A.P.’d once, S.C.R.E.W.’d twice, but may be S.H.A.F.T.’d as many
times as the Army deems appropriate.

4. If a Soldier follows the above procedures, he/she will be
entitled to get H.E.R.P.E.S. (Half Earnings for Retired Personnel’s
Early Severance) or C.L.A.P. (Combined Lump-sum Assistance Payment),
unless he/she already has A.I.D.S. (Additional Income from Dependents or
Spouse).

5. As H.E.R.P.E.S. and C.L.A.P. are considered benefit plans,
any Soldier who has received H.E.R.P.E.S. or C.L.A.P. will no longer be
S.L.A.P.’d or S.C.R.E.W.’d by the Army.

6. The Army wishes to assure the younger Soldiers who remain on
board that the Army will continue its policy of training through our
Special High Intensity Training (S.H.I.T.). This Army takes pride in
the amount of S.H.I.T. our Soldiers receive. We have given our Soldiers
more S.H.I.T. than any other service. If any Soldier feels they do not
receive enough S.H.I.T. at their current post, see your immediate
supervisor.

Its been so long since i last blogged! But here i am again! Whoo hoo! And the hols are coming to an end for some of us... and strangely enough.... im not THAT sad.... i think i might actually be getting used to having no/very short holidays...heh.... getting geared up for working life... hahaha!

Anyway first the Bad News: Obesity increases risk of cardiovascular disease.... yes not really new news but still bad news...

But heres the Good news: Obesity improves prognosis of cardiovascular disease!!! WHOA! You read right! Comparing ppl with cardiovascular disease, those who were obese fared better than those who were not obese! AMAZING! But those who were obese and lost weight had the BEST prognosis! Yeah...super confusing....

So the moral of the story is, if u have heart disease, u better hope u r obese...if not...try not to get heart disease by not being obese... heh....

Just got back from the barber...again...seems to be one of the few times i actually blog nowadays...but anyway this time ive got something else to talk abt! instead of complaining abt getting a bad haircut, ive decided to say something nice about barbers for a change.

I realised they actually have to put up with quite a lot of crap and still not gain much from it.... like in my case...i only cut my hair once every 2 months or so....and that leaves me with a LOT of hair to cut each time... and no matter how much time they have to spend cutting my hair, they only get paid the same amount of money....which is quite sad.... then again sometimes they do get ppl with very little hair who come for minor trims but still.... and today, there was this SUPER demanding customer who kept getting the barber to restyle his hair to his liking...its a barber shop....not a hair salon....but anyway after the barber finished one part he would say "okay just one more thing..."...so yeah the barber spent so much time and in the end still only got paid $10....so yeah....i shall stop being so mean to barbers from now on....

and i dont know why i listen to the crappy propaganda on 98.0 fm...

I know this is long overdue for some ppl who've been back in s'pore for some time, but i was feeling kind of happy abt finishing one large clump of work (and to take advantage of nick not being around) and so decided to post this up. School's been getting more and more tiring each week and ive been exceptionally exhausted this week (most likely due to my getting up at around 6am for the 3 weeks).Looks like it'll be even worse next week.... haha...i really really cant wait for our holidays to come, even though it is only 1 week long. Just want to be able to sleep past 10am everyday for one week and i'll be pretty happy.

And the past 2 days have been rather 'crappy' for me too...

On friday i decided to buy tauhu goreng (for the first time from that certain stall), and while waiting for my food, this mynah just had to poo right in front of me... it was gross... thankfully it didnt land head on...but it was bad enough. Its poop literally dropped right in front of my face and splattered on the glass counter of the stall.....and one drop of it splattered onto my arm.... great...just what i needed before i ate... it really was very off putting ad i just hope none of it fell in my food...urgh...

And today, again, i just had to be the lucky one. The car doesnt get washed very often cause i usually leave the house before it has a chance to get washed. So being a saturday, it got its first good proper wash of the week. And after parking in an outdoor carpark (this is why i would always choose indoor over outdoor) for just one hour, i come back finding my windscreen vandalised with droppings....bah....

i dont seem to have much luck with birds... or maybe its that im too lucky... ive been pooped on at least 5 times in my life which really does seem like a lot for a person who doesnt handle birds on a regular basis.... i really hate birds....

happy ORD-day! it's been one year since a lot of us ord-ed.. it seems like such a long time.. and yet also at the same time (or not) like such a short time as well... like how time passes here.. so fast and yet so slowly.. maybe i just don't have a very good sense of time.. which would explain how come i'm always late for the first thing of the day (be it lecture at 9 or prac at 12, etc) without fail.. except for today.. although i got up the latest i've ever gotten up for a 9 am lecture.. and i slept at 3 (to do an essay! bane of my life, essays)! i think i slept through a fire alarm (a practice one) that went off at 6 or something? either that or it was a dream. someone was knocking on my door and i let him in and he said i didn't wake up and had to see the head porter (sounded scary) and then i went to sleep again.. like the poem the raven by poe. "while i nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, as of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door." (i'm so educational haha)

Never trust a bald barber...

After much delay, ive finally gotten my haircut...This morning, when i went to church, i was called francis....for those of u who dont know francis, he's one of the worship leaders in my church who has a rather distinctive hairstyle, it works for him but not for many others...and so yes i walked into the hall and this guy on stage said through the microphone, "Hey Francis!" and when i raised my head to see who he was talking to he said,"...oh no, its not him..."....and that was when i decided i definitely needed to get my haircut. And besides, eopt is coming.

So i went to the barbershop and once again i got this guy ive never had before. He was this bald man, which kind of made me worry from the start, and though the final product turned out okay, it was quite an experience. First, while using the shaver he had this strange habit of sticking his finger in my ear. I think it was the way he held the shaver which just happened to result in his finger coinciding with my ear... but for those of you who havent experienced it before, its really quite a strange, ticklish sensation and it took me quite a bit of self control to stop moving for fear of losing my ear....

Then the second new thing which he did, was he used a blow dryer! Well, he used it to blow the hair, which he had cut off, my head and face and it really worked quite well! Unfortunately much of it was blown onto my trousers and shoes.....getting hair out from between laces and in the little crevices in my shoes can really be quite tiresome...

And lastly, this isnt exactly characteristic of this barber alone, he was terribly rough when cutting my fringe..he'd scrape the scissor along my forehead and im sure if i hadnt taken defensive measures, i'd have lost a couple of eyebrows....

...oh well...

WHOO HOO!!! PATHO CA IS FINALLY OVER! Yay! Haha! Yes after many weeks (okay maybe not so many) of worrying over the CA which only makes up a measly (yet somehow extremely important) 11% of our final grade, we can finally take a good well deserved break! And as always, now i can actually watch tv and play computer games without the guilt and nagging feeling of needing to study!

And i must say, im getting tonnes better at studying nowadays! Longer hours (2-3hrs!!!) almost everyday! with 1 or 2 short breaks in between! Unfortunately, my habit of not working after dinner tends to make it quite a tight constraint...need to work on that.... oh well...its OVER! And though i doubt i'll do very well at all, im happy that i can start enjoying clinics now!

But anyway, for some reason, my happy days always tend to get ruined when i get home. After returning home from dinner, i thought i'd get some peace and quiet. But (surprise surprise) it was just not meant to be. I was resting in bed when suddenly louds squeals of fear/laughter pierced through the dark night sky. I thought it was some drunk ppl passing by but unfortunately they werent...passing by at least...

This group of teenage girls (i think they were...by their screams) were out in the park behind my house (yes that same old darned park where kids piss in) playing with sparklers (the type which make the whistling sound when ignited)! And everytime they lit one and the sparks came out they would scream and scream and scream! For every single one of their 10++ sparklers! My goodness...you'd think they'd have some kind of idea after lighting the first 1-2 of what to expect! But nooooo...they just scream after each one.... i dont remember doing that when i was younger! how silly...or maybe im just growing old...haha....

And again in the same park on another day, i saw this guy punching the jungle gym...doing uppercuts and whatever other boxing moves i dont know the names to....it was really strange.... i think i look out of my window too much....

Its been so long since i last posted anything! Well life's been busy but quite enjoyable....though not having much sleep does get a little tiring after a while. Unfortunately, to protect patient privacy and whatnot, i cant really say much abt what ive seen and experienced in hospitals but yes...its been rather interesting and fun! Though sometimes dealing with patients does take quite a bit of patience..... oh well i guess its all part of the learning process!

But yes...today i saw something really disgusting and so i just had to mention it.... After a tiring day in AH, i came home looking forward to a nice relaxing time in front of the tv. But before that i decided to give my eyes a break and admire the greenery that is the park/playground behind my home. Lo and behold the first thing that met my eyes (woe is me) was this small boy peeing on the grass in the middle of the park/playground! GROSS!!!! Thank goodness for curtains....I wasnt disgusted at the sight of peeing (since that isnt much compared to stuff i see in hospital) and I know its quite 'normal' to pee in public at that young an age, but in the middle of a playground??? Where other kids run around barefoot and play with the sand and sit on the grass? Thats just plain unhygienic! And most ppl who go to the playground live around the area...it wouldnt have taken much effort to go home and finish the deed! What if the kid had to poo? Bleagh..... now when i see any droppings in the park, the dogs just might not be the ones to blame....

Thanks for doing so much planning! Cant wait for australia! Heh...And since im going to be paying for my own trip.....im going to be doing something ive never done before....get a JOB(voluntarily at least...NS doesnt count)!!!! YES! So exciting! Its some job shadowing thing at TTSH where we'll follow doctors around and take notes on how they work...i think....not really sure what the job entails but its okay money....i think.... and it doesnt sound too hard! Hopefully i can make a few hundred dollars before we go off...haha...so exciting!

Yesterday i truly experienced Murphy's law in action. And unfortunately, the laws didnt tilt in my favour at all....from simple things like taking the lift in TTSH, to bigger, more life-impacting consequences which i cant really say here since im worried someone i dont want to read this reads it....though i doubt that person would... Lets elaborate more on the lifts...

The lifts in TTSH to the wards run on an extremely inefficient system... when u press the button, one of the indicators of the 6 lifts on that side (12 lifts in total) will light up. However, this lift might not necessarily be the one closest to that level. Like when we r on level 6 and a lift is on level 7 and going down, even if we press down, it might not stop! Instead, one on level B1 will be the one to come up then go down... dumb.... But yeah anyway, what happened was we were waiting for the lift as usual, and one of us happened to say, "oh good, the lift is coming!" and it immediately stopped at the level it was at.... The same thing happened again later the same day! Bah!

And then we (well mostly me) were talking abt hoping something would not happen. And honestly the chances of this happening were pretty low, but later that day, that thing actually happened....much to my dismay....im still pretty upset abt it....oh well....

On a happier note, i managed to draw blood successfully on my second try! It was an easy vein though....if anyone wants to volunteer to be my guinea pig do contact me!

Its 21 may 2008! Some ppl might be thinking, "Whats so special abt 21st may? Its not someones birthday again is it?" Well it isnt! (not that i know of at least...) But its a day which is almost just as special to me.....

Its the day i can finally throw away (or keep for my sis) those darned ugly bright shiny squarish triangular P plate! Yay for me! Hahahahaha! Yes, from today onwards, i no longer have to display that horrible P plate on the front and back of the car declaring that im a noob. No more being honked at for no rhyme or reason, being overtaken even when driving relatively fast, or having a bunch of ppl try to cut into ur lane or not let u cut into their lanes. And best of all, if i do get into any accident or break some traffic law (hopefully wont happen), my license wont be immediately revoked (unless i drink drive)! So yay! Haha!

In other news....1.5 weeks till holidays!!!...though im starting to realise how much im going to miss TTSH and doing nothing in CSFC...

Anyway, its back to school for some of us tmr...and yeah, i realised that having nothing to do isnt actually too bad....so i guess the holidays werent too much of a flop afterall(for me at least). And i did have some fun moments interspersed in between which made the nothingness more bareable. But yes, im really excited! Not just for school (which might not be as interesting as i hope it to be), but more for the holidays after that! Cause we'll actually be doing something! Cant wait for melbourne! Whoo hoo!

...arent as great as i thought they would be... now that i dont have to study anymore, a HUGE void has been left in my life...ive forgotten what its like to have so much free time! Even watching tv for hours on end has lost its appeal...what has medicine done to me! I try playing some online games and i get bored after a short while, i pick up a book and find myself falling asleep (its not just phantastes nick), i try thinking abt life....okay not really, thats just too much for me to handle...but yeah u get the idea....im sad...

Then i think abt all the things i should be doing to fill up my time and they arent much better than what i normally do. Like shopping for clothes for clinics....urgh....what a chore... i feel like just choosing 3 shirts and buying 3 of each.... i find no joy in shopping whatsoever but unfortunately its a necessary evil.... asking my mum to buy shirts for me doesnt seem to be working out since the size usually ends up wrong...tshirts r so much easier...bah....i guess i should tailor make but im too lazy to go to a tailor.. if theres anything worse than shirts its pants.... and theres shoes to worry abt too... i know theres a need to look professional but i just hate playing dress-up.... 3rd yr isnt looking so fun anymore....

Oh.....btw.... on behalf of my cousin (who is in ACJC this year) go visit the magic show at East Lodge during the 29th Funfair!!! She put in lotsa effort into helping to organise so the least you could do is..... SUPPORT!! haha!! Hi Guys!

Regarding this year's ACJC funfair, Mdm Rahimah said that a company was willing to sponsor some cakes and other cafe stuff for the funfair. All they need are people to run it so basically, if you're free on that day, YOU'RE OBLIGED TO HELP AS PART OF SCONE '05.

Currently, she's opening this opportunity to the new J1s but if no one wants it by this Wed, we can actually take it as a stall for Scone '05. It may be kinda nasty but lets hope no J1 goes for it! (They'll have to fork out $400 for it btw..) Its free for us, so relax...

We may need to fork out some money (or find a sponsor! ^.^) to buy some drinks for the cafe but other than that, the rest of the things should be all prepared/sponsored.

Interested/Free people please let me know. This cafe will depend on all your support!

Hey all, I know it's been really long since we've seen/spoken to each other... but this is the time of year where the ORDLOHNOMOREARMYLOH boys leave for Australia and beyond (but mostly Australia).

If you all didn't know, Yee Sen left yesterday for Melbourne, and Kevin and Channy are leaving tomorrow for Sydney and Melbourne respectively.

I was eating some yoghurt when a thought struck me.... do things like yoghurt and vitagen ever get spoilt? and if it does...how can u tell cause it already tastes sourish and, in the case of yoghurt, has a curdley texture... whats the definition of spoilt anyway? does it mean bacteria has started growing in it? cause then yoghurt, and vitagen, would be spoilt right from the start since it already has bacteria put in it....hmmmm.....

anyway the yoghurt carton said Best Before: 10 Jan 2008 and there was no expiry date...so does that mean u can still eat it after 10 jan but just that it wouldnt be best anymore? maybe just better? well i hope so...cause i ate it anyway...

Well as most of u would probably know, today was THE Day alot of us were waiting for (although unfortunately not that many of us could make it). Dinner at Jon Gwee's! Yeah well let's cut to the good stuff! It really was as much of a visual feast as it was an actual feast (the portions were small but i was surprisingly full after the 4 courses+ palate cleanser). Anyway, here are some pictures for all of u to enjoy!

Yeah well, the food was delicious! The "2-in-1" soup had quite an interesting taste and consistency to it, the charred pepper part being thicker and the onion part being sweeter and smoother! And the pasta and tuna were really to die for! The tuna was just slightly cooked but it didnt taste fishy at all! It was great! A pity there were only 3 pieces...heh.... and the granita was pretty refreshing too though im not a huge fan of cucumber. The veal cheek was sooo tender it just broke apart at the touch of the fork! And lets not forget the dessert! Pear ice cream! One of my favourites! The rosemary gave it an unexpected nice twist! And the donuts! Ooooooh! It wasnt too sweet nor too heavy! Mmmmmmm! For me the stars of the show were the pasta with tuna and the dessert! Need to learn to cook like that! Really happy we got the chance to have Jon cook for us! Hopefully we'll get another chance sometime in the future!

I hope you guys can lend us your support in this charity musical, completely written, directed and produced by current NUS medical students.

All funds raised get channelled to the Medical Students Bursary Fund, in support of needy students.

A recent survey by the NUS Medical Society found that about 21%, or 250 medical students in the NUS undergraduate medical course, have a monthly household income of less than $3,000. Another 26% come from households that earn between $3,000 to $5,000 a month.

Many of us won't think twice about going out for a movie or chilling out with friends at Coffee Bean. But there are those among us who do think twice, and not because they want to.

Dear Medicine Scones,

Never mind what triggered this post but...

Well, I've been wanting to explain certain things to all of you, but I never really got a chance to, and I never really felt like it either, and I was kind of hoping things would all blow over. But I really feel that I must say something about it.

As you all may know, or may not know, it's been a year since my break-up. And yeah, things have been going fine. Ok please don't get the wrong idea okay? Please read on, please do, before coming to any conclusion.

Now, what I want to say is that... well, Jocelyn's feeling uneasy everytime she sees you guys, and I really think it's because of me and how I'm related to all of you. And no! I'm not saying you guys are looking at her in a bad kind of way or anything - you guys are great, and you guys understand and you guys would never look at her like that.

But I do think I should've said something at least, or stood up for her or something. And seeing that up till now she is still feeling uneasy while seeing you guys...

I just want to say, yeah, it wasn't her fault. It really wasn't. If anything it was just my fault.

I should've said this a long time ago - that would've made her feel less miserable being around some Medicine people. Not that saying it now undoes the harm.

And I know bygones are bygones - but well, I should've said all of these long ago. I mean, it didn't feel good to me when people told me that people were viewing her in a bad light or something.

Okay, I don't know how true this is or anything, but yup, would like to just clear things up a little bit.

Don't angry ah? I don't mean to say you guys are mean or anything. Just want to defend my friend. Because I think I should've just let it all out a year ago.

And yeah, no need to go telling everyone this as well, and yeah. I know you guys understand.

....hopefully i can look back one day and laugh.

Studying really is getting to be a bit of a pain in the head.... tried to study today but certain circumstances just wouldnt allow me to... anyway i think my brain has reached its saturation point so i have to wait for some of the older facts to drain out of my head so i can let new ones in....such a waste of time....if only i had an unlimited memory capacity...

but yeah, seeing how my head was getting heavier with knowledge (i hope), i decided to lighten its burden by going for a hair cut......BIG mistake......well i always feel that way after a visit to the hair butcher but today felt worse than usual....i knew i was in trouble when the barber said, "Boy, how long you never cut your hair ah?"....i think they get quite irritated with having to deal with so much hair (cause it takes up more time) so they just oil-up their shavers and get to work shearing the whole lot off.....just like a sheep....he also used this wet brush thingy before using the blade.....and i think i had some sort of allergic reaction to the brush or the razor cause my skin around that area itched really badly after and even had some swelling... to cut an already long story short i came out of the place looking like i had a bowl put over my head and my hair cut....and i really think he cut off some of my eyebrows too....

.....now i remember why i only go back once every 2 months......

The army boys are clearing leave because ORD is in sight! =) A bunch of us met up on Friday to eat (a LOT) and talk. Aaron start planning the ORD party and June trip! =)
