Give thanks
Today, marc and i went for the xin nian kuai le project where we went to this housing estate (made up of single room apartments) to bring chinese new year cheer to the residents there. Most of the residents were old folks and they seemed to live alone in the flats, but some of the apartments had a family living in the single room....Yeah...it was really quite a new experience for me...cause ive never really been to a single room flat and never realised how small they really are. I didnt really get to see the inside of the flat but from the outside it looked pretty cramped. And i cant imagine how it would be like having to stay in on if 3 generations stayed in the same one.
On another note, it was also really great to see how happy the residents were just to see us. Many of them invited us into their homes (but we couldnt cause we were told not to...) and a few even wanted to give us stuff back. Sometimes i feel that old people are more grateful for such little acts of kindness. Heh...i guess its cause they've lived for a longer time and kind of know how tough life can be at times. It really quite sad to know that so many old folks live on their own though...and i dont think its cause they dont have children...
Anyway it really was quite an eye-opening experience for me and made me realise how fortunate most of us are and how much i take for granted....really should give thanks for all i have more often...
